Stevensville, MD - CloseCall America, a full-service telecommunications company specializing in low-priced community calling, is sponsoring the 3rd Annual Scott Mackler 5K Run/Walk to benefit the ALS Association at noon on Sunday, October 27 beginning at 301 Possum Park Road.
"We're proud to support this race and to help organizers reach their goal of raising $100,000 to help improve the quality of life for persons living with ALS," said Tom Mazerski, President and CEO of CloseCall America.A resident of Newark, Scott Mackler is a physician and researcher at the University of Pennsylvania who was diagnosed with ALS several years ago. Scott has been an active and dedicated member of the community. Because of all that he has given, Former Governor Tom Carper proclaimed December 17 Scott A. Mackler Day and family and friends organized the 5K run/walk three years ago to honor him. All of the funds raised from the event are earmarked for a special program created by Scott called the Assistive Technology Program. This program uses technology to increase or improve functional capabilities for persons with ALS.
Over the last two years, the number of race participants has grown from 250 to 410 and attendance is expected to exceed 500 this year. Similarly, funds raised from the event have increased from $15,000 to $60,000 (a 140% increase). This year's goal is $100,000.
