Lets Get Started!


You will need to know the following information before proceeding:

The name of the ISP is
CloseCall America Online
Your Login ID
if different from your e-mail address
e-mail@closecall.com
E-mail address
screenname@closecall.com
Incoming Mail (POP3) Server
mail1.closecall.com
Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server
smtp1.closecall.com


Verifying, and Installing Dial Up Networking and How To Create a Connection Icon.

  1. Double click the My Computer icon. If there is a Dial Up Networking folder go to step 10, if not go to step 2.
  2. Double click the Control Panel.
  3. Double click the Add/Remove Programs icon.
  4. Select the Windows Setup tab.
  5. Uncheck comunications, and press Apply.
  6. Recheck comunications, and press Apply.
    (YOU NEED THE WINDOWS 95/98 SOFTWARE)
  7. After the files are done being copied, select Yes when asked to restart your computer.
  8. After the computer restarts, close the Control Panel.
  9. Double click the My Computer icon.
  10. Double click the Dial Up Networking icon.
  11. If you automatically are in the Connection Wizard click Next, if not, Double click the Make New Connection icon.
  12. Type in CloseCall for the name of the computer you are dialing.
  13. Click Next.
  14. Enter your dial up number for your area. If you are not sure, please locate a local number for you by going to our Access Number Lookup page. It is your responsibility to make sure that this is a local number.
  15. Click Next.
  16. Press Finish. You should now have a Connection icon.
  17. With your RIGHT mouse button click ONCE on the CloseCall icon.
  18. Left Click Properties from the menu that appears.
  19. Click on the Server Types button or tab.
  20. The only boxes that should have a check in them are Enable for Software Compression and TCP/IP settings.
  21. Click OK until you are back to the Dial Up Networking window.
  22. With your RIGHT mouse button click ONCE on the CloseCall icon.
  23. Left Click on Create Shortcut from the menu that appears.
  24. Then select Yes on the message that comes up.
  25. Close Dial Up Networking, and close My Computer.
  26. You should now have a Shortcut to CloseCall on your desktop.

Verifying, Installing, and Configuring The Dial Up Adapter and TCP/IP.

  1. Press the Start button, select Settings, then Control Panel.
  2. Double-click the Network icon.
  3. Make sure the Configuration tab is selected.
  4. Both Dial-Up Adapter and TCP/IP should be present. If not, continue on.
  5. To add the Dial-Up Adapter, hit the Add... button, double-click Adapter, then scroll down the list until you can select Microsoft.
  6. Choose the Dial-Up Adapter and hit OK.
  7. If you need to install TCP/IP, hit the Add... button, double-click Protocol, then select Microsoft, then TCP/IP, and hit OK.
  8. Now the Network dialog box should contain both Dial-Up Adapter and TCP/IP
  9. Select the Dial Up Adapter, click Properties..., Bindings, and make sure the TCP/IP box is checked. Click OK.

Configuring the TCP/IP Protocol

  1. Click on the TCP/IP protocol and press the Properties... button You should get the TCP/IP Properties box
  2. Under the first tab (IP Address), select the Obtain an IP address automatically option.
  3. Under the WINS Configuration tab make sure that Disable WINS Resolution is selected.
  4. Under the Gateway tab, make sure there are no numbers, if so delete those numbers
  5. Press the Add button, this will add 0.0.0.0 in the bottom window.
  6. Under the tab DNS Configuration, make sure that Disable DNS is selected
  7. When you are finished setting these options, press the OK button
  8. Click OK on the Network window.
  9. Windows will attempt to install the needed drivers.
    (You made need your Windows Installation disks)
  10. You will be prompted to Restart your computer, press Yes.

How To Use the Connection

  1. At the desktop double click the Shortcut to CloseCall
  2. This will open the connect window. Fill in your login ID and password.
  3. Press Connect.
  4. After connecting in, double click on the shortcut to your browser (Netscape or Internet Explorer)
  5. If you would like to check your e-mail, you can go to www.closecall.net and click on "Check Mail". you will be taken to a login screen where you will be asked to enter your screen name and password. Information about how to configure your e-mail programs are located in the Customer Support area.
