E-mail Overview
Q: What is the difference between a screen name and mailbox?
A: Your screen name is the beginning part of your e-mail address.
Every E-mailbox has a unique e-mail address and a password associated with it to check mail.
An e-mail address is composed of a screen name, followed by an '@' and domain name. For
example, consider the e-mail address johndoe@closecall.com. "Johndoe" is the screen
name and "johndoe@closecall.com" is the e-mail address.
Q: How do I check my e-mail?
A: The easiest way to do this, which requires no configuration at
all, is to launch Internet Explorer or Netscape and take advantage of our Internet Mail
(also called iMail) located at here.
You will be required to enter your screen name (also called user id) and password.
Q: I would rather use a mail program on my computer so that I
can save as many messages as I want.
What mail client should I use?
A: We recommend any popular mail program you prefer. Some of the
most popular programs include Outlook, Outlook Express and Eudora.
Q: How do I setup my mail client to check my mail?
A: We have instructions for setting up:
Q: What is the difference between me using iMail (checking my
e-mail using a browser such as Internet Explorer or Netscape) versus using one of the mail
clients, such as Eudora?
A:
iMail via a browser |
Mail Client on my computer |
| All your mail is stored on our servers |
Your mail is downloaded from our servers to your own computer |
| Once you have filled your disk quota, you must delete old messages and/or attachments before you can get new mail |
You can store as many messages and attachments as your own computer can hold |
| You can check your e-mail from anyone's computer via ant Internet connection without having to configure anything |
While you can use the mail available via the browser to check your when you are away from your computer, if you have used any special features of your mail client (i.e. your address book in Outlook or Eudora), you'd have to be at your own computer to utilize these features you have set up on your own computer inside your mail client. |
Q: Can I use my own e-mail client AND check my mail via a browser
when I am away from my computer?
A: Sure! Although you can use both, we recommend that you choose a
preferred/primary method to avoid losing track of you mail.
Q: How do I choose which method is best for me?
A: Your primary method of checking e-mail should best fit your lifestyle.
For example, if you travel a lot and don't like to take a laptop everywhere you go, checking your
e-mail via a browser is your best way to check e-mail. On the other hand, if you like to save all
your messages and mostly check/read/compose your mail when you are at home, then perhaps you
should configure your own mail client on your own computer, so you'll never have to worry about
disk space, since all your mail is stored on your computer.
